The best way to write the location names in your genealogy files is in standard form as follows (never use abbreviations for error reduction):
Name of location/address, Name of town/city, Name of township, Name of county, Name of state, Name of Country* (include all known items)
*I only include the country if it is any other than USA - I leave off the USA completely. If you are working on a family from another country, however, and someone has a location of "USA", please add it into the file.
Examples:
When writing the birth location of my oldest three children, I write:
Texas County Memorial Hospital, Houston, Texas County, Missouri
When writing the death location of my father, I write:
Harry S Truman Veteran's Hospital, Columbia, Boone County, Missouri
When writing the burial location of my father, I write:
Pine Lawn Cemetery, Houston, Texas County, Missouri
When I write the birth location of my father, I write"
Bado, Lundy Township, Texas County, Missouri
NOTE: It is very important to keep your locations up-to-date, with no abbreviations being used (see above).
